Nathan is a graduate student in the lab of Dr. Olga Zabotina. His research focuses on the mechanisms of cell wall integrity in the model plants Arabidopsis thaliana and Brachypodium distachyon. To study cell wall integrity, he utilizes the transgenic expression of microbe-derived hydrolase enzymes to induce specific wall modifications. These wall modifications can uncover the effects of wall degradation and pathogenesis on cellular metabolic processes.
